What an eventful term we have had at Warley Road! We are so proud of the hard work from children and staff who have worked hard and this was reflected in our latest Ofsted report.

The children have produced some fantastic work this half term and here are just some of the things we have been up to:

  • Reception children enjoyed a trip to Square Chapel Theatre in Halifax to watch a production of Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. The children enjoyed the performance and have asked to go back to the theatre because it was ‘lots of fun!’
  • Year 3 and Year 5 enjoyed a trip to the cinema this term linked closely to their English and Creative curriculum units. Year 3 enjoyed watching Aladdin and Year 5 enjoyed Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
  • We have had lots of parent meetings this half term and always enjoy inviting the parents in to see our fantastic work. Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 parents have all visited school this term linked to areas such as reading at home, residential and phonics. We also continue to welcome parents to our weekly coffee mornings every Thursday- my favourite!
  • Our Year 1 children also had the opportunity to visit West End Park linked to their Science topic and Year 4 had a trip to Tropical World in Leeds.
  • Year 6 had a very exciting day when they had a visit from a real Arctic Explorer- Tim Dixon! Tim talked to the children about his experiences in the Arctic and the children had the chance to make model glaciers and discussed exploration in the Polar Regions.
  • Our Parent Forum has also worked with the School Council this term to decorate our school Christmas Tree and have helped out at the Winter Fayre. The Winter Fayre is always popular and this year we had a fantastic turn out from children and parents.
  • Warley Road Glee Club also performed at the Mayor of Calderdale’s annual Christmas concert in Halifax Town Hall. The children really enjoyed the experience and sang their hearts out. We are very proud of you!

I am looking forward to an exciting term ahead and hope you have a relaxing winter break.

What an exciting start to the Autumn Term we have had so far!

I have had lots of fun meeting all of our new Nursery & Reception children and parents. All of the children have enjoyed getting to know their new teachers and made friends.

So far this term we have...

  • Chosen our 2017/18 Digital Champions and started some exciting new work to keep everyone at Warley Road safe online!
  • Our new Year 1 children are taking turns to take home our DigiDog Online Safety Mascot- I am looking forward to hearing about his adventures.
  • Our school football team were lucky enough to be invited to the Shay Stadium to watch the Halifax Town Vs Wrexham game. At half -time, they had fun playing a match, on the football pitch, against Salterhebble Primary School. Well done to them all for their efforts!
  • Year 5 children are currently on their annual Malham Cove residential- they are having lots of fun...despite getting wet!
  • Year 3 have enjoyed their French Day, making Eiffel Towers out of paper, sampling French food and even taking a flight to France with our very own Warley Road Air Hostess!

Miss Jagger and I have also had the opportunity to spend time with the new school Glee Club. We are looking forward to performing this year at the annual Mayor's Charity Christmas Performance in Halifax Town Hall!

Wow! What a busy half term we have had at Warley Road! I have enjoyed meeting all of the new families who have joined our school and catching up with parents at our popular Thursday Coffee Morning.

The classrooms look fantastic and it has been lovely to see the children's super work up on the walls. Year 1 have created some lovely work this term linked to 'The Enormous Crocodile' by Roald Dahl. At my Afternoon Tea gathering with the younger children, one of them told me that the crocodile was 'green like Mrs Ling!' Mrs Ling certainly made us all smile when she dressed up as the crocodile during our Roald Dahl celebration day.

This half term both Mrs Horner and I have set up reading libraries in our offices which have been very popular with the children. I have had many queues outside my door-poor Mrs Foster wondered what was happening!  The most popular books so far seem to be Harry Potter (my favourite!) and Goosebumps.

One of my favourite things this half term has been the new International Menu at lunchtime. We have tasted some delicious Italian Lasagne, Mexican Beans and Moroccan cuisine. Yum!

Next week is our big planner draw, where the children will come to my office and bring their class raffle tickets which they have been awarded from our planner spot check. The children are already excited and have their fingers crossed that they will win a class reward. Good luck everyone!

Happy New Year!

It is lovely to be back at school today. The children and staff have all returned to school with smiles on their faces, ready for an exciting term ahead.

Last term was so busy! We had so many wonderful activities happening in school that I want to tell you about..here are just a few examples of what we got up to at Warley Road.

  • We had a visit from Google Expeditions - a Google Virtual Reality educator came into school and our KS2 children had the chance to travel on a virtual reality expedition. Some children went under the sea, some explored the jungle and one class even travelled to space! We enjoyed it so much that we are looking into purchasing our own VR Toolkit..watch this space.
  • Children in Need- we all had fun dressing up in our Pyjamas to raise money, you can see the photographs in our 2016/17 gallery. Can you spot the silly teachers?
  • Year 1 and Year 3 enjoyed a trip to Eureka and a historical walk around Halifax.
  • We celebrated Anti-Bullying Week and Road Safety Week accross school. The children took part in competitions and we had assemblies linked to each topic.
  • We held a Winter Fayre in the last week of term and it was fantastic! Lots of children and parents came to the fayre and had a brilliant time. We had face painting, home cooked food (served by the Parent Forum), penalty shootout, tombola, bric a brac stalls, to name only a few. We are already looking forward to our Summer Fayre. A big thank you to everyone involved.
  • Finally, we enjoyed a visit from Santa Claus and a delicious Christmas Dinner with chocolate pudding-Yum!

This term we have lots to look forward to such as a visit to the Town Hall with School Council, more trips and workshops linked to our topics and I am going to be inviting children for Afternoon Tea with Mrs Horner and I. I can't wait for a cupcake and a cup of tea!

Spring term has been full of exciting learning experiences for the children at Warley Road. Every week has brought with it a trip or a workshop of some sort, and we have even had a visit from some Meerkats!

  • Nursery staff held Stay and Play sessions for nursery parents and carers this term. This is an opportunity for parents to come into school and see what their child gets up to in their nursery sessions. We also invited our parents to take part in one of our Rhythm Time music sessions- they had lots of fun singing and playing the instruments.
  • We have had lots of exciting year group trips and workshops this term. For example; Year 5 visited the Space Centre and learnt all about the different planets in our Solar System, Year 1 visited Bankfield Museum, School Council attended the 'Fair & Funky' fair trade event at the Halifax Minster and Year 2  had a visit from some furry Meerkats to link in with their class book 'Meerkat Mail'.
  • The children have raised lots of money this term for Red Nose Day. The School Council chose a rainbow theme for the day and each year group dressed up in a different colour of the rainbow. We raised a whopping £500!
  • We enjoyed celebrating World Book Day this year and dressing up as our favourite characters from a book. The staff at Warley Road chose to dress up as Wally from 'Where's Wally'- can you spot any silly teachers in our photo gallery?
  • This term has also seen the launch of our 'Adopt a Governor' scheme. Each year group has adopted a school governor and has invited them into their classroom and to year group events. Our governors were very happy to receive their invites.

Today is also a special day for Year 4 as they are enjoying a Titanic Day. The children are spending the day baking food that would've been served on the Titanic, taking part in a formal dance and making a model ship with passengers. I am looking forward to sampling some of the fruit flans!

Wow! What a fantastic end to the year we have had at Warley Road! This term has been full of exciting trips, activities, and visitors to school...to name but a few.

  • Nursery and Reception children have had lots of fun in the sunshine in the outdoor provision. They have enjoyed building structures, blowing bubbles and creating beautiful chalk drawings. Reception children also enjoyed a Teddy Bear’s Picnic!
  • Year 1 have spent lots of time in our new KS1 Mud Kitchen & Green fingered Garden areas. The children have spent lots of time growing fruit, vegetables and beautiful flowers. They have also made some bird feeders to attract our feathered friends.
  • Across the school, the children have grown their own herbs and flowers in each classroom. So far we have tasted delicious cress sandwiches in Nursery and enjoyed eating some basil & tomatoes from year 5. Yum!
  • We have had lots of interesting trips and activities taking place in school this term such as; a Year 3 trip to Bagshaw Museum, Year 1 Pirate Day, Healthy School Day, Egyptian Museum experience, Birds of Prey visit,  Lego Electro-City visit, Skipathon, Sports Day, Bridlington Seaside trip and to top it all off our Year 6 residential to Scarborough! Phew…what a list!
  • Our school football team have played some tough matches against other Calderdale schools and we particularly enjoyed watching them play against Cross Lane- Mrs. Watson’s school. Lots of fun all round!
  • Staff have taken part in another Warley Road Staff Bake Off. The entries into the competition were excellent and Miss Knight was the lucky winner, making a delicious chocolate cake.  I made a chocolate orange cake this time and didn’t even get to try a piece myself!
  • Sadly, this week, we say goodbye to our Year 6 children as they move onto secondary school. I am going to miss them all and wish them all the best for the future! Xx

This week we have all enjoyed watching their year 6 production of ‘Edith’s Wartime Scrapbook’- it made us laugh and gave us goosebumps! Fabulous show!

The fun isn’t over yet- tonight is Hollywood Bollywood, we will all be getting out our ‘posh frocks’ and joining in the party celebrations! Tomorrow, we have class parties and I will be looking forward to a fish and chip lunch!

What a year 2015/16 has been! I can’t wait for the exciting things planned in 2017/18!

Have a lovely summer everyone!
